And So It Begins...

If the first episode is any representation of what the rest of the season is going to be like, I think I'm really going to like it. It's already sounding like Novacom, so I have high expectations for what's to be heard in the weeks to come.

I thought the episode felt a little short, but I guess that's going to be normal since it's a twelve-parter. All of the acting was great, and so was the music. A couple of times it seemed like I was watching an action/adventure movie in my mind. And there are so many secrets already!

Why did the plane crash? What was its business in Odyssey? Why were there only three people inside? Why was Monty one of the people inside? What is Dirk Begg's secret? Why didn't he want the police to get involved? What's on his AppleBerry (I love that name!)? What is Wally Haggart's secret past? Why was there a bag of money in the woods? Is it counterfeit? What's the big deal with the carnival? Who is the Stiletto? Why is he alive if Uncle Wally thinks he died years ago? Is it Dr. Blackgaard or Richard Maxwell or Jellyfish or Dalton Kearn or Mr. Charles or The Chairman or Mitch or Jason?! And when will we ever find out if a duck's quack makes an echo?! So many questions! I hope some of them are answered soon. I'm glad this episode didn't have too bad of a cliff-hanger though.

I thought Whit's doing a pretty good job so far this season, and I can't wait to see how Andre Stojka does with the action/adventure/mystery/thriller episodes that Paul Herlinger had mastered.

Eugene is also sounding very good. I hope he gets to play a big part in the mystery, especially when Katrina comes around. Hopefully we get to hear them together a little bit, since sometimes it seems like Eugene is single all over again. I think the chemistry between him and Emily was really good. We hadn't seen that before. And I loved it that when he saw the money he shouted, "Loudly exclaimed euphemisms escape me!"

All of the parts played by the kids were really good. The opening scene with Matthew and Emily was kind of weird. We never found out why Emily was acting so irritable. I thought the fact or urban legend game was kind of out of place, but it was still funny. But I guessed right away that "guys only, ladies forbidden" was an urban legend. Although you don't see ladies playing golf very often, and I've never heard where the name "golf" came from. Nelson and Matthew had great chemistry as always, though it struck me as weird, just as it did Matthew that he's afraid of bugs and strange sounds. I thought he was one of the people who started Kidsboro! He shouldn't be so scared of stuff like that. Jay's part was well played, and I look forward to hearing more from him in the weeks to come. He really is starting to take Rodney Rathbone's place in my heart.

Well, that's about all I have to say about this episode. I really think I'm going to like this season at least more than any others since the hiatus. I've heard some people say that it's up among their all-time favorite Odyssey albums. But maybe that's just because they get to say that they listened to it before it even aired on the radio. That'd probably make it one of my favorites too.

Anyway, make sure to come back next week when I review The Green Ring Conspiracy, Part II! Thank you for reading! I greatly appreciate it! Pleace comment!

P.S. Connie's taking college classes?! Finally! I wonder how that's going to come into play later on...

  1. I loved this first episode! It was exciting, with twists, but not so many that I got confused. I also thought it was really weird that Nelson was afraid of the woods when Kidsboro is in the woods. If you're gonna spend the whole summer in the woods, you might as well get accustomed to bugs.
    Nice review, by the way.
I can't wait for the next part!

  4. Tee hee, a little tid bit, all of your questions get answered except the duck's quack and Uncle Wally's past. Also, there are several moments with just Eugene and Katrina so I think you will like that. Anything else you want me to share? LOL

  5. @ Lydia: Thanks for the comment! I can't wait either! I'm glad you were patient like I was, so I don't have to be the only one.

@ Burn 4 Him: Thank you for commenting and reading my blog! You can listen to the episode here at http://www.focusonthefamily.com/popups/media_player.aspx?Tab=Shows&subcategory=AdventuresInOdyssey&ShowPath=Adventures in Odyssey&broadcastDate=2011-03-14&KidSafe=1

@ Luke: What is the "dos"?

@ Tim B.: I think that's enough for now. But it's nice to know that those questions will get answered. And I'm very much looking forward to hearing from Katrina. But I don't know if I'll be able to live without knowing whether or not a duck's quack echoes!

  6. Oh boy! LOL We are just now heading into a great big conspiracy and all you can think about is a duck's quack. LOL I'm just kidding, you could probably look it up online. :-D

  7. I was just kidding. But that is a good idea. It's not really bugging me that much. I hadn't even thought about it until I saw your comment. ;D

  8. Didn't Wooton say that a ducks quack doesn't echo on Blood, Sweat and Fears when they were doing the barnyard animals trivia thing?

  9. Yeah, that's the first place I ever heard it, so I was surprised when Matthew said that Emily was wrong in thinking it was a proven fact. This website (http://www.acoustics.salford.ac.uk/acoustics_info/duck/) gives the real answer.

  10. I'm glad you enjoyed the episode! Album 53 I think has gotten a very good start, compared to the previous ones. :D

  11. Well, we all should have known that Wooton may not be the best source for info on whether a duck's quack echoes or not. After all, he thinks Texas is a country.

  12. @ Lydia: LOL. That is a really good point. I don't know why I every thought he was telling the truth. ;) But that may mean that he's wrong about other things that he said about farm animals too. I'm going to have to start doubting everything he says.

@ Marvin: Well, Album 52 came in with a fairly good start. The Mystery of the Clock Tower was voted Best Episode, and it was pretty good. So was The Inspiration Station. That's one of my favorite shows on Album 51. But I agree, this was better than both of those.
